Archuleta School District is planning for the future of education in our community. Last spring, the Master Planning Advisory Committee (MPAC)—a group of parents, staff, and community members—recommended building a new PreK–8 school on the district’s top priority. Learn more

At the most recent MPAC meeting in late August, the committee and Board of Education reviewed survey results from 300 voters, which showed strong community recognition of the need for safer, more modern facilities, with many families supportive when the cost is explained in simple, monthly terms. Two sites are under review: district land on Vista Boulevard and property on the high school campus. Both properties are being professionally evaluated for broad land development and utilities, environmental impact, and traffic, access, and safety.
Looking ahead, the district plans to apply for a state BEST grant in 2026 and may pursue a bond election in the fall of 2026. If approved, construction could begin in 2027, with a new school ready for students in 2029.
